Multimodal transportation delivers cargo using two or more modes of transport. Road, rail, sea and air options are planned together according to the cargo, route and delivery requirements. Unlike intermodal transportation, the cargo does not have to remain in the same loading unit throughout the journey. The aim is to coordinate transport stages to improve time, cost and operational management.
